             Meet the Teacher

Hi, my name is Jenny Borman and I grew

up in wild and wonderful Charleston, West Virginia.  From an early age, my mom (who is also a teacher) instilled in me a love of learning.  Some of my fondest childhood memories involve playing “school” with my three younger brothers and our neighborhood friends.  Various internships and summer experiences as a preschool summer teacher, camp counsellor, and behavior technician reaffirmed this desire to become an educator.

Four years ago, I moved to lovely Lexington, Virginia to attend Washington and Lee University, where I majored in Psychology and minored in Elementary Education.  Through the Rockbridge Teacher Education Consortium (RTEC), I made the essential connections between theory and practice with practicum placements in preschool, kindergarten, second grade,  fifth grade, and abroad in Northern Ireland.  Additionally, I completed a post-graduate semester of directed student teaching in third grade at Harrington Waddell Elementary, where I gained invaluable instructional skills in a student-centered environment.  As the final requirement for Virginia teacher licensure, this certifies me to teach pre-k through sixth grade.

Following completion of my student teaching, I was lucky enough to remain at Waddell as a long-term substitute in fourth grade.  Although the position was unexpected, it became the perfect opportunity for me to put my strong foundation in learning, memory, and motivation to the test, on my own this time!  I am so grateful for the various experiences I gained through RTEC’s program, and look forward to learning with a future community of students.
