Studying abroad during my time at Washington and Lee University has been a defining and invaluable experience. In this little town I have found a way to experience other worlds and also help my peers to do the same.

Through three major experiences in Cairo, Egypt and in Italy, and a few shorter expeditions I have been able to study abroad for a total of fifteen months. I learned everywhere I went, in the classroom and more inflentially through connecting with people, places and art. This portfolio aims to take you on an experience of your own so you can feel how the Cairene sun energizes you to explore new horizons, or how the Italian masters inspire you to see more in a world that may at times appear mundane.

Each experience had a huge impact on how I have conceptualized almost everything I learn at Washington and Lee. Most of my major projects from the last two years since going abroad have been influenced or even are centered around my time in Egypt or Italy whether it be art, poetry or sociology.

My travels have had large influences in my character: I find myself to be more patient, understanding, open-minded, and critical of my own society and the nature of what I take for granted. I am a better person, better student, and a better artist because of my time among the Egyptians and Italians.
